This year, 2015, marks the 35th anniversary of my first recording of original music. NALR released "Light of the World," in 1980, with 3 more recordings to follow before moving to OCP. The actual writing began a few years earlier, with some of those earliest works included here. The majority of this music is from the 1990 release, "Here With Us Now."
This recording is autobiographical on a number of levels, and includes my earliest and newest works. The cover of this CD is of the Watch Hill Light, in my hometown in Rhode Island. Its personal significance is due to me father's birth in the lighthouse—his father was employed there in the early 1900s, about the time that this post card was created. The beam of light is directed east on a straight line to Ireland, the home of my grandmother, who sailed into New York Harbor as a young girl. Since 2001, I have spent many weeks in Ireland singing, speaking, teaching, and visiting family and friends. My experiences there continue to shape my music and life.
I am also about to celebrate 30 years as music director of Christ the King Church in Kingston, RI. Most of my published music has been written for this community, one that continues to bless me and support my work.
I am eternally grateful for my family, my friends, and mentors along the way, John Limb and everyone at OCP, and especially all of you who support my work and affirm my decision, made back in 1972, to write music for the singing church. Thanks to OCP for letting me go back and re-imagine this music, and offering me a place to remain creative!
Finally, I am forever indebted to all of the singers of various ages and backgrounds who gave me an amazing sound that is exactly what I was hoping for...ageless! Thank you Jason Banta for your ears and patience!
And to Mary Carol, Carolyn, and Glenn....not sure where I would be without you!!
